Getting Started

Call or e-mail me to arrange for an appointment to discuss your goals and my process of physician coaching. This complimentary interview allows us to explore whether we want to work together. If we feel we have a “fit,” we’ll begin a three-phase process of discovery, planning, and implementation of coaching.

More specifically, we’ll explore your immediate objectives, personal vision, values, leadership style, and motivators. We will collaborate on some strategies for achieving immediate success and then summarize them in a coaching plan.

We may use a number of assessments to aid the coaching process, such an online assessment of your interpersonal and leadership styles as well as the factors that motivate you.

If you are interested in improving your relationships with staff and colleagues, I may conduct confidential interviews of those you work with to gain insights to advance our coaching plan. If you wish, I will observe your interactions with colleagues or patients.

My signature program, the Physician Performance Advantage Program, involves an initial intensive 2.5 day process of discovery, planning, and implementation conducted at a convenient location in Portland, OR.

Subsequent coaching sessions are usually conducted by telephone. This reduces distraction and eliminates travel. The process works well. However, I can also meet with you in person.

Here’s the magic of coaching: I keep you focused and moving towards your goals through effective strategies and fierce conversations to keep it “real.” And you’ll receive extra support via e-mail check-ins. A good coaching experience typically involves 3-6 months of weekly 40-minute telephone sessions and then occasional follow-up.
